e Joe Baione has a passion for all things jazz and\ncontinues to make a ma
rk on the jazz scene with his powerful and\nenergetic performances on the
vibes. The relative rarity of\nvibraphonists in the history of jazz remain
s one of the musical\ngenre’s true mysteries. Despite the natural beauty
of the\ninstrument’s sound and the historical importance and celebrated
\npopularity of its most famous players – Lionel Hampton\, Milt Jackson\
nand Bobby Hutcherson – comparatively few artists have chosen to make\nt
he vibraphone their primary means of expression. Fortunately\, Joe\nBaione
shows that the vibes and the mallets with which he plays them\nare in ver
y good hands. A native of the state of Delaware\, Baione grew\nup in a jaz
 z drenched musical environment. His father\, the\nclarinetist-saxophonist-
educator Jim Baione\, is a graduate of\nPhiladelphia’s prestigious Combs
Conservatory of Music\, where he\nearned both his B.A. and M.A. in Music
Education Degrees and first met\nJoe’s musician mother\, Barbara. The ot
her musical members of the\nBaione family include Joe’s two older brothe
rs\, bassist Tom and\nguitarist Jimmy. Following in his father’s footste
ps\, Joe studied\nboth music education and jazz performance\, graduating f
rom the\nUniversity of Maryland E.S. in 1995. In 2003\, Joe had the good f
 ortune\nto meet saxophonist/composer Benny Golson\, when the jazz legend\n
participated in a series of clinics and benefit concerts in Delaware.\nThe
two forged a lasting friendship and Golson became an important\nmentor to
the vibraphonist\, encouraging him to pursue his dual dream\nas a jazz mu
sician. Golson’s appraisal of Baione as “a young man\nwith vision who
is able to realize the future today” is one that has\ninspired the young
veteran vibraphonist to reach for. Joe Baione has\nperformed at some of t
he most prestigious festivals and venues in the\nworld\, too many to name\
, but some include Trinidad Jazz and Steelpan\nFestival\, Rochester Int. J
azz Festival\, Clearwater Jazz Holiday\,\nJacksonville Jazz Festival\, Jam
aica Jazz and Blues Festival\, Dizzy’s\nClub Coca-Cola\, The Iridium NYC
\, The Kimmel Center\, The Freeman Stage\nand the Rehoboth Autumn Jazz Fes
tival\, just to name a few. DuPont\nBrass* Join DuPont Brass at the Freema
n Arts Pavillion and Immerse\nyourself in the fusion of unfiltered eclecti
 c soul\, reminiscent of The\nRoots' groove\, Earth\, Wind & Fire's energy\
, and the soulful vibes of\nyour favorite R&B/Hip-Hop artists. DuPont Bras
s promises a unique and\ninteractive experience that transcends boundaries
 \, leaving you craving\nmore. *This performance is sponsored\, in part\, b
y the Mid-Atlantic\nArts Foundation Please stay tuned as a third performer
will be\nannounced soon! Venue: Freeman Arts Pavilion.
