Mama Maria's Restaurant and Beach Bar

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Mama Maria’s in Dewey Beach. I paid around $22 for a small pizza, and the crust was so hard and dry that it felt more like a cracker or a rock than pizza dough. I have eaten there before and the crust was much softer, so I knew something was different this time.

I complained, and they did remake the pizza in front of me. The second one was slightly better, but the crust was still very hard and thin. What made the situation worse was the way I was treated. Instead of handling the complaint professionally, the man at the register became upset and told me not to come back to the business.

That is not how you treat a paying customer who is simply asking for the same quality they received before. If you own or run a restaurant, you should be able to accept a legitimate complaint without becoming disrespectful toward the customer. The issue was not just the pizza it was also the customer service and the attitude.

I came in to buy food, not to argue with anyone. I expected a properly made pizza and respectful service. Unfortunately, I did not receive either.

UPDATE: To answer the restaurant’s question, the second pizza was a little softer because it was prepared in front of me, but it still was not what I originally expected. My biggest concern is that the first pizza appeared to be an already made pizza that was taken directly from the refrigerator/freezer and then reheated. That explains why the crust was extremely hard, dry, and almost like a cracker.

I ordered a small pizza with chicken, peppers, and ham and paid around $22. For that price, I expected a fresh pizza. Many other pizza restaurants prepare the dough and pizza fresh in front of the customer, often for even less money. I simply do not understand why an already prepared refrigerated frozen pizza would be used instead.

I appreciate that they made a second pizza, and it was somewhat better, but that does not change my concern about the first pizza or the way I was treated when I complained. Being told not to come back because I expressed a legitimate concern about the food was also very disappointing.

This place was awesome and our server was so sweet and it was lovely talking to him. The food was amazing. I had the chicken alfredo which was the best I've had in such a long time. And my son had a plain cheese pizza which he said is the best pizza he's ever eaten. There's a bar. There's the restaurant. There's a carryout pizza area. It's right along the main road. A little bit of parking but you're better off walking, especially in the busy season.

What a disappointment. We paid over $32 for a pizza and it wasn't worth the money. The crust was burnt on the bottom, and the pizza was **extremely salty**, to the point that it overwhelmed the flavor. For that price, I expected a much better-quality pizza.

The $17 order of wings was just as disappointing. The portion was small, and they certainly weren't worth the high price.

Overall, it feels like the prices are aimed at tourists rather than providing good value or quality. If you're charging premium prices, the food should match. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they care whether customers come back. We won't be returning.
