A Solid Bagel Stop in Lewes
I’ve eaten at Surf Bagel before, so on the way home from a recent business trip I decided to stop again and grab breakfast to go.
I ordered a sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and scrapple, along with a hash brown. The bagel was nicely toasted and very fresh, which is really what you hope for when you’re stopping at a place that specializes in bagels. The sandwich itself was simple but very satisfying. Nothing over the top or crazy fancy, just a well made breakfast sandwich that hit the spot.
The service was friendly and quick, and the place itself has a unique feel to it. Inside they sell quite a bit of Surf Bagel merchandise, which gives it a fun local vibe beyond just being a bagel counter. I included a few photos because the shop has a cool look to it.
I stopped in around 9 in the morning and it was still pretty busy, even during the off season. That tells me this place probably gets packed during the summer months.
Overall, everything was fresh, the staff was nice, and it’s definitely a place I’d stop at again when I’m in the area.

Surf Bagel isn’t the same after its owner sold it to a big business. For all of those that remember the larger fresh delicious- New York style bagels it’s just another thing that has changed. It’s been a few years since the sale and the bagels are nothing to write home about. Cost more and they aren’t as big or tasty. I guess they can be average since they are the only game in town. The bagel in my picture is an everything bagel - should be called a few things bagel. 7:30 am purchase and it wasn’t that fresh or tasty but.. better than Dunkin… maybe ?

UPDATE: Surf Bagel reached out to discuss my complaint and and they resolved the issue!!
Longtime regular customer (16 yrs). I purchased (04/11/26) a breakfast sandwich (BEC, $11.50) at the lewes location (two eggs and extra bacon),(which is an $4.00 upcharge) drove home without checking the order and this is what I received.
FYI... I experienced the SAME at their MIDWAY location..... (see previous review)

While $4 dollars extra for absolutely nothing isnt going to break my bank, it says to me that
a) the restaurant doesnt quality control their product.
b) the sandwich production line people dont read the orders or dont care what they serve.
In any event, its still unacceptable.
I understand that mistakes can happen, but this was NOT the first time I did not receive what i purchased. I always just chalked it up as a one off, (they were busy, it was during season, blah blah) but its happened WAY too many times.
Surf bagel is the only game in town, so if you want a bagel and patronize their stores, DEFINITELY check your order (at the counter) before you leave. You cannot trust that you will receive what you ordered.
