To put it very simply, the ice cream at Vanderwende Farm Creamery is to die for! It’s rich & creamy with excellent flavor. For example, unlike some manufacturers, Vanderwende puts big pieces of strawberries in their ice cream so you know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that you are eating strawberry ice cream.🥰

As some other reviewers have said, the serving sizes are VERY Generous!! My wife got a single scoop of chocolate chip ice cream on a sugar cone but their single scoops look an awful lot like a double scoop anywhere else. My son got a strawberry milkshake & I watched as the young lady put 5 very generous scoops of strawberry ice cream in the cup before “filling in the cracks” with milk & blending them into a shake. Of course, they topped it off with whipped cream & a cherry. I got a 3-scoop sundae (Vanilla, strawberry, & chocolate fudge ripple with hot fudge topping) that was incredibly good.

To top it all off, the prices are very, very reasonable, especially considering how much you get in a serving!

So, if you live anywhere near Vanderwende Farm Creamery in the farm country of Delaware & you haven’t already checked them out, what in the world is stopping you from doing so?! If you don’t live in the vicinity but you drive to the Maryland/Delaware beaches, it’s well worth your time to go get some ice cream, even if you’re not hungry. Either way, you won’t regret it!

One last little thing that irks me ever so slightly is the fact that they have a display near the chairs where customers can eat their ice cream & in the display are 2 cows, an adult cow & a calf. The problem is the adult cow because it has both horns & an rudder (for milking). However, only female cows have udders & only male cows (aka bulls) have horns.

Spur of the moment stop on our way to Ocean City. Needed to stretch and have a sweet treat. Definitely worth the stop. Delicious I’ve cream, friendly service. Enjoyed our ice cream watching the cows in the field and the sun set. Thanks!

This Vanderwende’s is definitely worth a stop if you like freshly made quality ice cream. They have a nice outdoor covered area to relax and enjoy the cows as you eat (as long as you don’t have a problem with farm aromas).
The “kids scoop” for $5 is quite sufficient for the average adult. I got a scoop of coconut with wet walnuts (see video) and was plenty satisfied with the quality and quantity. It’s a Delaware tradition, so highly recommend you give it a try if you happen to be driving by this unique spot in the middle of eastern shore farmland. 🐮🐄
